Halifax Residents Nervous After Recent Pedestrian Accidents

Victor Lewin - Saturday, January 18, 2014

Authorities in Halifax report that a 55-year-old man has been injured after he was struck by a car in the Dartmouth mall parking lot. The pedestrian accident took place at about 11 in the morning on Jan. 16. The driver, a 29-year-old woman, apparently hit him with such force that it smashed her vehicle's windshield; she has been cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian.

The incident is only the latest in a series of such that have left many residents concerned. One woman says she was nearly hit by a car as she navigated the crosswalk on Nantucket Avenue near Dartmouth High School, and she claims that such things happen regularly. Many residents have taken to buying reflective gear to help them avoid such incidents. According to the owner of a local store that sells such gear, customers have sought to purchase bands, jackets, vests and lights that will make them easier for drivers to see.

Pedestrian accidents of the sort this report describes are particularly dangerous events for the victims due to the forces involved. Faced with a vehicle with as much mass as an automobile has, a pedestrian often suffers serious, perhaps even life-threatening injury that permanently inhibit their well-being and quality of life. In many cases, the victim is unable to continue working while their treatment is ongoing - and in the worst cases, they may never return to work. Without adequate compensation, such persons could encounter a great deal of hardship through no fault of their own.

An accident lawyer may be able to assist victims in these matters by facilitating and even expediting their injury claims. Moreover, if some form of long-term assistance is required, the victim's lawyer may assess the nature of the claim and adjust its quantity as required.
