Halifax Regional Police are investigating a pedestrian accident in which a wrong-way vehicle ran into a jogger in an intersection. The incident happened at Cogswell Street and North Park Street at about 9 a.m. on Nov. 5. At an intersection near the crash site, construction on a roundabout forced the closure of some streets and the redirection of traffic.

Some residents of Nova Scotia may have experience in dealing with accidents such as one that occurred recently in Alberta. According to authorities in Edmonton, two men were killed in a serious crash there that took place on Tuesday, Oct. 28, and a third was badly injured. The incident took place approximately 100 kilometers south of Fort McMurray on Highway 63.

Authorities in Nova Scotia have reported that a 37-year-old Sheet Harbor man lost his life in the early morning hours of Oct. 17 when the pickup truck he was driving was involved in a collision with a tractor-trailer. The truck accident occurred on a 38 kilometre stretch of Highway 104 in Marshy Hope.

Police in Nova Scotia and the rest of Canada made a concerted effort to crack down on distracted driving over the recent holiday. Referred to as Operation Impact, the police initiative was focused on certain distracted driving behaviours that are known to increase the occurrence of car accidents. After months of educational campaigns on distracted driving, one sergeant said that it was time to enforce the laws.

A woman was killed and another driver was injured in a three-vehicle crash in Nova Scotia. According to an RCMP report, the accident occurred when the woman's vehicle was rear-ended and pushed into the path of an oncoming tractor-trailer on Highway 105. Following the car accident, a section of highway near the crash scene was shut down in each direction while police investigated.

Woman Sentenced in Fatal DUI Accident

A Nova Scotia woman was sentenced to five years in prison for the death of a 55-year-old man in a July 2013 car accident following a guilty plea of DUI causing death and DUI causing injury. The judge ordered her to serve a concurrent sentence of three years for the injuries her friend suffered in the same accident. Her Honda Civic drove into an SUV that was driven by the man on his way to work. The July 10 drunk driving accident occurred at about 6 a.m. outside of Lawrencetown Beach where the accused woman had been drinking.

3 Motorcyclists Injured in Accident, Charges Unlikely

Nova Scotia police say that three motorcyclists were injured in a collision on Aug. 24. The crash happened on Pleasant Valley Road near Brookfield as the driver of a vehicle says that she was trying to turn. During the turn, she crashed into the three motorcycles. Police say that signage in the area was inadequate, and charges against the female driver are unlikely.

A motor vehicle accident that occurred around 5 p.m. August 4 in Dartmouth has resulted in serious injuries to two men. The accident happened near Main Street and Forest Hills. According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the 49-year-old driver of a pickup truck was travelling toward Dartmouth when the pickup collided with a Toyota Camry. Because of the crash, the pickup overturned and struck a Ford Focus and a motorcycle.

Appeal Denied for Man Accused of Running Down Another

A 40-year-old Nova Scotia man who was convicted for running down his ex-girlfriend's male acquaintance in 2013 has been denied early release from jail. The North River man had sought the early release and to appeal the length of his sentence, saying that appeal delays are such that, by the time an appeal is heard, his sentence will be complete, making the appeal a moot point.
