VW Emissions

Jenkins v. Volkswagen et al

Nova Scotia Supreme Court File: Hfx No. 445800

Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaftis a manufacturer of many makes and models of automobiles. With their main headquarters located in Wolfsburg, Germany, VW is one of the leading manufacturers of vehicles.

Recently, it has been determined that Volkswagen used sophisticated illegal software in certain vehicle models which turns fuel emissions controls on only during official regulatory or other testing. At all other times, the emissions controls are suppressed. The result is that the cars meet emissions standards in laboratories or under testing conditions, but during normal operation they emit nitrous oxide and other pollutants at up to 40 times the levels allowed under Canadian or American laws and regulations. The software produced and used by Volkswagen is known as a “Defeat Device”.

Vehicles affected by the ignition switch problems are:

  • Audi A3 2.0L TDI 2009-2015 models
  • Audi A6 Quattro, A7 Quattro, A8, A8L and Q5 2014-2016 models
